A few years ago I had to abandon my TD 9 outside the barn when its stopped just after I backed it out. Suddenly, no gears meshed or at least there was grinding in every gear. Some limited engagement I recall was possible in reverse gear. I want to revisit the problem and try to get it going again. I'm no mechanic but I do have plenty of tools and the shop manuals. I recall checking the shifting fork at the time with an auto mechanic who noted wear but was not sure that was the cause. The former owner, I recall, said it was probably an adjustment to the bevel gear that "got undid" but was of no further help. Shall I take off the seat and tank to have a peek - I cant see much through the rear inspection plate. Any ideas where to start investigating?

I think you should check your coupling break cluch maybe the break cluch is not working and you can't angaged the transmission any gear.
TD-9 Powershift & Torque converter: Bought dozer, unloaded & ran forward ~ 100 yds. Changed oil in engine, started & runs good, ran it forward for ~ 200yds & attempted to dig--no forward power. Took back to barn less power forward, restarted-finally no power to go forward--cleaned filters & changed oil (30wt) in transmission-still no forward power but plenty of power to go in reverse. Is it the transmission?
Do I pull engine?
