A hearty congratulations to Bill for his new look message boards/forums. A vast improvement in layout and user friendliness.
The only problem I see here, Bill, is a need for a heading "posting photos" in the menu.
The ability to post photos is hidden somewhat.
At last!! A spot for Komatsu lovers!!!!
I must tell D8Bob and Merv!!
I will add my congrats to Bill on the new look WELL DONE ;-)
I really like the appearance, it seems easy to surf. Is there French a help page?
Check spelling is a good idea for people who have not english as mother language.
Lilian
Thanks for the info on the t20 it answered several questions all at one time
Yes French is available. I checked tonight and saw that from the language selection you can select French as the language of choice. So feel free to make a post in your language of choice. I would be grateful and honored if you do.
thanks

I am looking at a International TD18, serial # TDR9751T4. I know it was made between 1939 and 1947, and was originally a military machine. The grousers are very worn (probably about 30-40% of original height). The rails and bushings appear to be good except for 2 or 3 cracked (mostly missing?) bushings on the right side. The bushings have not been turned, but feel pretty good. The sprockets appear good. The tractor appears to have not run for at least 10-15 years. I don't know of any mechanical problems, but I will have to see. When I inquired about the machine the owner asked me to make an offer. If anybody could give me an idea of what a fair price for this machine is, and the year it was made, I would appreciate it. Also I forgot to mention that it has a 12' hydraulic blade, and is parked by an old gas well in the middle of the desert.
What kind of costs are you going to run into, hauling it out of the desert?
Keep in mind there's a big heap of work in making it operational again. For the tracks, you'll most likely need a pin and bush turn, plus a few bushes, grouser rebuild, plus a few other hidden items.
Check out the oils, in particular, drop the plugs for a second or two and see what comes out! (metal? water?).
See if you can get the cover plates off the likes of bevel gear and gearbox and peer inside.
What's the cooling system like??
After 15 years, where did all the water go?
Ring up the part out guys, tell 'em you've got this machine out in the desert, and see what they'll offer. Offer him a hundred more. He won't get any more off anyone else.
TD9 Dave,
At $15 a ton for scrap that comes to $375 US currency. I don't know of anyone restoring one and the mechanics I have known that worked on them are all dead. Unless you like projects that are hard work and cost lots of money let this one stay in the desert.
OzDozer & JohnC
Well I called two places that sell parts and asked for a salvage price. One gave me a price of $850-1000, and the other said $450-500. I think I'll offer to haul it off for him for free and if that doesn't work offer him $200-300. If he still says no I might sic the BLM (for you Aussies, Bureau of Land Management) on him as the government owns the land, Then I'll see if he is interested in free hauling after they tell him to get it off their land.

I am not really that up on the td series that much which one had the dual 3" stacks on it I know of a dozer with a dozere blade and a ripper on it!!! ANy help would be awesome I can pick it up for little or nothing
There were several series like that used dual stacks. The TD14 and the TD18 used them. Good sized machines. If the UC is any good on them, the price is low enough and they run, they could be a good buy. One thing about IH is that the head design on them was know for cracking so starting and stopping the machine was important. They start on gas and go to diesel once the cylinders have warmed up.
One thing is what do you want to do with the machine. That will make a big difference. For puttering etc. they would be good machines.
Hope this help. There should be a serial number plate for the machine above the left foot rest in the cab area. I can then figure out the age of the machine.
I have a couple of questions about an International T-9 I have. It it serial number TCB14855 T4. The interesting part is that it has an Austin-Western hydraulic crane on it. It's all original and was owned by the US Navy.
Can ayone give me a date of manufacture? How common are the Austin-Western crane units? Is there any way I can get the manual for the crane?
It has been sitting for a long time, and has very little use. Tracks show almost no wear. However it has a few problems. The brake pedals shake. Brakes are strong and both pedals shake about the same. Also the main clutch lever shakes a little. Any ideas?
The other problem is that the hydraulic pump disengages itself under load. It just quits pumping. To re-engage it, I need to disengage the main clutch and re-engage it, then it works fine until the next thime I put a load on it.
How hard would it be to get the correct winch for this unit? I thnk it ogiginally had one, but it was removed.
Thanks for any help,
Alex.
I've found a TD18A that cranks but has no spark.
Someone has taken the mag/ign apart, so I've had to guess how it fits together. Some parts are missing, like the cover over the points for one,
so I can't tell how the wire from the intake hooks
up.Any advice on this? Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this ignition?
Thanks for any help,
Ed
I'm currently rebuilding an IHC TD62 Track loader. I'm replacing my left track with one from an earlier TD6. The tracks are the same, except the pads, so I'm changing them. I'm short three links, so I'm using three from my old track. I need to locate three new pins and bushings for this machine. Where can I locate these. ALso, I'm giong to need to replace my top idlers soon.
ANy help...
T340
where did reverse go, does this have shuttle clutch or what setup is this basicly and any info is appreciated even humor. dads machine and he said it steers just no reverse this is all info. over phone he's had it for years its paid for itself many times over.
thanks
Floyd,
The T340 that I owned had a shuttle and five speeds. I don't know if IH ever made any with a non-shuttle trans. The shuttle should have a forward/reverse lever on the left (like a hand clutch on larger dozers). No reverse could be the result of an incorrectly adjusted linkage on this lever. These are just my thoughts on the matter, but if you need more info e-mail me and I will try to help.
Hope this helps,
TD9Dave

I have a IH 500c the left pressure plate sticks regardless of linkage adjustment. If the plate is pried away from clutch basket power goes to track, but when steering lever is pulled it sticks again. Any idea's.
Help,
I'm trying to rewire my TD-62 and I need a wiring diagram. I have an owners and service manual and nothing shows any parts of the electrical system.
I have the 283 diesel and the Generator is original. Many of the wires were removed/cut and I want to replace everything and put it all back to normal again.
I need this diagram ASAP. If someone would happen
to have a copy and could scan it and email it to me, I would be much appriciated.
Thanks,
--Bill Tremel
bill@tremel.net
I can help you with that. Those books will tell you Nothing. What you need is the parts manual and that will help you work the wires back to where they are supposed to be.
www.binderbooks.com will have that available.
Also many local Case/Ih repair shops will have the info on that for wiring.
The wiring in the is quite simple. The TD9 is wired in the same or similar manner.
Will check here shortly to see what is close by for me.

I was told that the engine in the TD-18 we bought may not be the original, and that it might be a TD-18A. Is there a tag or serial no. on the engine that may define what exact engine it is? How can I find out.
I was told that the TD-18 I bought may have a TD-18A engine in it. The serial no. (TDR15474-T7BL) shows that it is a TD-18, not an A or 181 or 182, but we were told that the engine was replaced and that it might be a TD-18A engine. How can I tell so that I order the correct maintenance manual?
I would like a little help please. I have a td14a s/n td535798. what is the year model?
My standard serial number books do not show that number.

Oil Seal Bucyrus-Erie Pump.
Ihave a bad oil leak coming out round the drive shaft of the Bucyrus-Erie pump fitted to the front of my TD9, this operates the bulldozer hydraulics. The ID plate is missing from the pump, can anybody supply me with an exploded parts diagram for these pumps, I would like an idea of what they are like before I start to dissasemble. Do they use a standard type oil seal?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
John MB. Canada
Are you sure it's a B/E pump? My TD-18 with the B/E blade set up uses a Hydreco pump and control valve. I got seals for my control valve at the Komatsu dealer( former IH stuff)
TD-18 Identification
There is a TD-18 coming up in auction on Monday, I am told she is a 182 series. The ID plate is missing from the "firewall". She has six bottom rollers and two exhaust, I thought the 182 series went back to one exhaust! She also has a radiatior back up tank in the middel of the hood, this looks like it was factory. Any one any idears? Would also like to know weight and horse power.
Thanks John MB. Canada
I just bought an IH Crawler Tractor L175P with a Drott 4in1.
The Serial # is 7059.
This is my first dozer and I bought it to clean fence rows etc. around the farm.
How do I find an operators or service manual?
How do I find what year this is?
If you have a straight 175, it's a 1964. I guess you are using P & not B or C. P is for powershift.
Try JENSALES at 800-443-0625 Good luck HT
It is a P and it is a powershift.
I assume the L is for loader?
That would make it a straight 175 Crawler Loader.
Thanks for the indication that it is a 1964.
I appreciate the information.

TD18 1941 six cylinder gas/over Diesel. 90% under carriage, pads have been regroused ,all idlers in excellent condition, all clutches work great, I have pulled the cylinder heads because of two burnt starting valves, have new valves and head gasket and new fire rings to reassemble. Byres Erie blade assembly.
ran great when pulled apart last fall but I don't have time to Finnish and I am not a big Diesel machanic.I am asking $4000 the parts in the under carriage are worth that alone, U/C was rebuilt (finals also) about 12 years ago and the machine has only been moved around the farm since then. If you are interested I can e-mail photo's. Also has twin spool cable winch on back(very large winch).

I've just gotten hold of a 1960 IH t340 with a drott skid/steer frame and 4 in 1 bucket.
Engine runs good. The undercarriage is not in bad shape, except the tracks and rollers are shot.
Anyone know good replacement/repair companies in the New England area.
Also, I'm sandblasting and repainting , not sure of the color, other than industrial yellow.
Got any ideas ?
The steering is in need of adjustment, I've got the service manual on order and I hope that that will help.Anyone ever tackled the problem ?
I have a TD-9, ser no. TDCB-58359, with a Drott Loader. The rigid crossbar and the piece underneath the crossbar that the pivot shaft goes through are both broke. Diesel
model - 340k3
serial - A1632
I have two questions:
1.)Does anyone know the proper ratio of diesel-to-kerosene I can mix for this tractor for winter use? it was suggested to me that I put kerosene in it to keep the diesel from jelling.
2.) Does anyone know the proper fluid I am supposed to use for the transmission? The fluid level is below the "low" level and the bucket does not lift well/pump complains when I operate anything hydraulic. Thanks in advance
Howdy folks,
Does any body just happen to have a bottom roller for a TD6? I live in south western Pa.

Need an answer to a question. When a crawler has different tread width is it measured center to center or inside to inside or what? Thanks in advance.

TD9B/TD14-142-I'm need of a very good hood for each, and tilt cylinder for the 9B. The 9B is a non-turbo, torque converter drive.
Has any one had experiences or have knowledge about a TD40B Dresser, good or bad?
I am wanting to add hydraulic blade tilt to my TD-15, series 150 dozer. A TD-15B tilt cylinder will drop right in. The problem is that I've been told by the local hydraulic shop that my stock crankshaft driven hydraulic pump / valve combo does not have "power beyond" capability. That is, it is not possible to pull hydraulic pressure off of this pump for additional valves - that possibility was just not designed into the dozer system in 1958. The stock '58 system is very large, bulky, and does not compare to recent hydraulic setups.
My question is this: How are the Drott loader equipped TD-15 /150s set up to get the additional valving to operate the lift cylinder and the bucket roll? My parts and shop manuals do not show any other equipment options. My theory is that I might be able to adapt the loader hydraulic system to my needs. Anybody out there familiar with this setup who could help me out? Thanks
TD6 for sale. Supposedly parked in shed since 1979. New undercarriage put on prior to parking. Machine has Holt blade, is 4 cylinder – am guessing age to be about 1953. Engine runs but #1 cylinder only had 30 lbs pressure and passing water. Machine rolls easy and can be loaded for transport – located at Centralia, WA. 98531 Asking price - $2000 firm. Crawler can be restored or a lot of excellent parts on machine.

I have recently acquired a TD-6 61 or 62 series and presently getting her to run. First question is how much clearance between the frame and the idler holder??? I have about 1/2". I was thinking about welding a piece of flatbar to the frame and making up the difference. I finally found out why the guy before me broke the track adjuster rod.
I just bought a 1970 International 500C with a 4 in 1 Drott and rippers, torque converter, reverser and 3 cylinder diesel. Anyone know anything about these, peculiarities, things to watch out for? Seems like a nice little crawler. Strange starting system, no glow plugs, no gas startup, just starts by a turn of the key. Am using it to move sand in the riverbed, may replace my TD6 for discing and my Case 310 loader.
Has anyone ever seen an IH B50 rubber tired loader. I just bought one and am looking for any information I can find. The tag says made in Great Britian. It is about the size of a large skid steer loader with the steering in the back.
Here is my '63 15B after a hard days work.

I have made sure the brakes are set correctly. The right hand side is fine. Here in AUS' parts are pretty scarce. any idea where I can obtain these fibre plates in the U.S.

Need help on value of a IH TD9B 1970 model. U/C is said to be great, in the last 5 years it has had the clutch rebuilt right final drive rebuilt new steering clutches & brakes. Engine was done a few years ago (in frame rebuild) but was ran with a hole in the breather tube and suspected dirty air ate the rings up as it now uses quite a bit of oil. The fellow has a new set of rings for it. He doubt's the old dozer has run over 500 Hrs if that much since all of this was done. I would only have to move it less than 30 miles. Not familiar with tracked equip so I'm looking for some advice.
Thanks
Hi,
I went to look over the TD-14 today. It turned out to be a TD-14A. Serial number TDF-31641. According to the forum serial specs it is a 1952.
The owner started it on gas with no problem and it switched to diesel easily. It moves under its own power but turns only to the left a little. So it does need the steering clutches replaced. It was missing went cold but seemed to clear up as it warmed up. It has a hydrualic straight blade that works. The blade is a Bucyrus-erie Bull Grader. Numbers 14 WG-2 #95860. Other than the owner saying it needed a head gasket it looked rough but usuable for my purposes.
My questions are:
What do you guys think of it?
What are the cost for the parts for the steering clutches?
What parts would be needed?
What do you guys think it is worth?
The owner can deliver, it is way bigger than I could haul.
Any other things to consider or look for?
Thanks in advance,
Doug
T-4 international crawler for sale in n.Y. bbschenk@frontiernet.net
TD9 For Sale. Engine rebuilt and has less than 100 hours on rebuild. New pistons, liners, head, valves, and injectors rebuilt. Has a hydraulic blade with manual tilt. Asking $4850. Located in NE Oregon. Used mainly to plow snow and pull out things that get stuck.
I bought a Caterpillar D4 7U or the crawler would not be leaving the ranch. I can send pictures to your email if interested.
I am considering buying a td-20.Without exception every person I have spoken with said don't buy it "you wont be able to get parts for it except from a bone yard" even the komatsu dealer advised not to buy it. Is all this true? Thanks in advance for any response.
Which TD 20 are you talking about. 200 or 201 series-Td20 B/C ????? HT
td-14
I recently bought a 1946 td-14 and I was wondering what the small tank is for just ahead of the dash. The filler tube comes out threw the hood. The other tank beyond it is the gas tank. Any help pleas
td-20 201 series made in 1962. It does appear it is going to need quite a bit of work gas and electrical side and seal are leaking pretty bad underneath. It does start (either) and run but it doesent turn to the left. I feel comfortable about getting steering working again but it's the engine, trans, seals ect. that I'm concerned about having parts available.
Richard
I have a good TD20 200 good tracks and under carrage runs well on gas and diesel. angle dozer cable lift front mounted. rear Cargo towing winch. both steering clutches stuck from sitting. $4000 F.O.B. Pocatello ID. FRED 208 251 8288
Thanks for the response Fred, allthough I have allready put down some money for the above mentioned crawler. I guess in my previous postings I should have come srtraight to the point I'm trying to get to. Does anybody (since I have been to the komatsu and they said they do not carry them anymore) make aftermarket parts(if so who and how do you contact them) for the international harvester crawlers and in particular the TD-20 201 series. Thanks for any and all replys.
My brothers and I have inherited a farm on which is sitting the remains of an IH TA-40 dozer, serial No. TAC876. The tracks and pads are in excellent shape and the rest of the machine (less the engine) seems to be in good to very good shape. It is situated here in north central Wisconsin (Antigo). Anyone interested please contact me before the first week-end in May, as it will go for scrap after that. Thank you.
I saw a TD-20B by the road. It was a cable blade machine coverted to a single cylinder hydraulic blade. It showed about 4300 hours on the meter and was just moved next to the highway for sale. What is a reasonable sale price for a machine like this? Grousers looked good, the pins had been turned at least once, and the rear sprockets were in great shape. It is a powershift machine. I was just curious about the sale value. I might pursue it. thanks.

I HAVE A TD14A 141 DOZER WITH A CRACK IN THE WATER JACKET . THE CRACK IS STRAIGHT,AND ABOUT 6 INCHES LONG. HOW SHOULD I GO ABOUT FIXING IT.THERE IS NO INDICATION OF WATER IN THE OIL. IT IS A GOOD MOTOR OTHER THAN THE CRACK.
Is there a site that one can look at the Specs for TD9, TD14 etc? Things like size, HP, etc. I'm looking at both a TD9 and a TD14A next week, and am definitely a newcomer to these. I'm looking for something to keep up some fire roads , clearing out manzanita, and general dirt moving on some acreage we own up off the Feather river in northern Calif.
Thanks

TD6 Starter bolts? Would anyone know the size of the bolts that bolt the starter to the block? Just received a machine and the starter was not bolted up and there are no bolts around, loader arms are in the way and very hard to get to. I want to make sure I am useing correct size so I don't strip them.

DU282 Rebuild gone bad
Ok here is the history, the engine is in a trojan loader, worked good smoked a lot an used afair bit of oil, and then it blew a headgasket. The owner didn't want to spend alot of money, sleeves were in decent shape so I just replaced rings and bearings put it all back together worked great more power and no smoke. untill he changed the oil, he put in some 10w-30 diesel oil(he says) then it was smoking and using oil again, I told him to drain it out and put in some good 30w but it didn't help. So what do you guy think did the wrong oil cause the oil control rings to wear out quickly? There is not alot of blow by in the base so the compression rings must be ok.
Thanks for any advise, winston.

you think?
You got one hell of a good deal. I have an identical machine, you have a very good dozer. The engines are not bad to work on, I rebuilt an engine last year, the steering clutches will try your patience. I just purchased a similar machine in auction for $700 Canadian, and I am waiting to get my TD24 home, be careful you may become addicted! Have fun!
hello i own an older td9 with a 6 cylinder turbo diesel engine. my uncle put a rod through the block and im looking for a good complete motor or a good shortblock.the rest of the machine is in good shape ,it has a drott loader on it and im willing to trade td9 parts for the motor or pay for it. i have a set of good triple grouser tracks and some other frame parts and loader arms with a 4in1 drott bucket.also 2 lift cylinders for the loader. any help would be great. i live in rhode island. thanks brian. engineer175c@aol.com
My td25c will run ok for about 30 minutes and then the transmission will start to slip until the dozer will not move. After an hour it will run for another 30 minutes and then quit again.Where should I start looking for trouble first?
Help with TD9
My wife inherited a TD9 (I believe it is 1940s or early 50s model) from her father when he passed away. It was in running order but he was working on it when he died. The intake manifold and carburetor are off but otherwise it seems to be intact. I would like to be able to get it back together and running before we try to sell it and would welcome any advice on how to go about it. I have done some basic automotive repair but I have never tackled something like this. The TD9 is in the Catskills/Albany NY area. Any suggestions about how to find help, a buyer, or what I should ask for such a machine would appreciated.
P.S. We also have a 1949 GMC backhoe that we would like to sell.

What would be a reasonable price to pay for a TD15C Crawler Loader with a 4in 1 bucket, a rock bucket, about 40 to 50% UC, it has a blown motor, threw a rod, but he has another motor available and I think between the two I can make one, even if I need to have a head welded and cleaned up or look for an another head to make it go. He is asking 2300 Canadian or about 1500 US for it
I just purchased a T9 Sr# TCB70006.
I Will be looking for a good used or new set of rails and a set of sprockets. How hard will it be to find rails and sprockets? What should I plan on paying for each?
Thanks for any help.

Where can I find a engine overhaul kit for a
TD20-B,or maybe a complete engine that is in good running condition? Thanks, Jeff
Jeff what is your s/n & what model # engine is in the machine. People sometimes change or up grade to a later engine. If you will e-mail me I can work up a price. Thanks John Hopp Sr AKA Half Track
Does anyone know what years the TD-14A was produced? I have the chance to purchase one with a mostly new u/c, but some engine issues. The seller said it was 1961, but I doubt it. I need to clean up tags to get serial number. It supposedly runs and functions, but has a vibration and noise as a result of an overheat. I checked for water in oil and could not detect any separation. Is $2500.0 fair and what else should I look for. The dozer is a little larger than I would want to keep for long so if anyone with a similar value smaller dozer wants to upgrade please let me know.
craig, I answered this post A.M. today. For some reason it didn't take. My page is still open to it. The TD-14A was built from 1949 thru 1955. The s/n's range is 26760 thru 39300. HT
Halftrack - thanks for the info, since you know about these units, does it sound reasonable to you? Any suggestions on what to watch out for?
175C with power shift tranny that got water in the tranny. What kind of fluid should I use and do I need to flush or just drain and fill.
i have 1948 td-9 dozer it has only one diesel filter others i have seen have had two what is reason
I have a TD9 that is stuck in gear. When I let out the clutch it just dies and won't transfer any power to the tracks. Stick shifter will not move the gear train. Milton says it may be stuck in two gears and this happens from shifting back and forth too fast. Has anyone done this before?? Any tips on doing this procedure would be appreciated. jeff
T9 dozer can anyone help. Block says 8318dd 5-6-a. The name plate very old and worn, T9 8358T4 . I believe one number is missing as very difficult to read. Can someone help with specs of motor possible year of dozer and hp of motor. Just a beginner and would like to learn about this t9.The hyd for blade is taken from front crank shaft. I do not know if orginal blade, and do not know how to tell what make. Thank you Larry
Jeff,
You will have to pull gear shifter out of housing and set the fork gaps so they all line up straight across. Then re-install shifter.
This will be neutral.
I would pull top off and see why it engaged two. The detent balls and springs on top of forks may be worn or missing on a fork. These prevent the friction from moving other forks.
Can anyone tell me what year TD14A with serial no. TDF28450T7BH is?
Also is it a 142 or 141 or what?
Thanks
I have a 53 TD9.....I just recieved a new gear shift lever for it.......the old one was gone.....I am looking for instructions on re-assembling the lever......I have the lever in with the pin but now there is a spring and a funnel type cap and some small washers etc. Can anyone help me on the order of assembly??? thanks baron

I have a td14a that starts and moves backwards
but seems to jump out of gear in any forward gear.
A friend watched in the inspection hole and said the pinion shaft moved to where the teeth don't mesh when trying to go forward
we figure the teeth mesh in reverse and stay locked because of the gear cut.
so what do you figure it is and where to start fixing this?
Thanks and great site

I have recently purchased a 1942 TD-14 with a highway service blade. The unit has not been run for 10 years or so. My Dad and I got it running. The problem is when you first switch from gas to diesel; it only runs on two cylinders. When the temp gets up to about 100 the third cylinder fires. When temp gets too about 170 the fourth cylinder fires. At 170 it runs like a top. We replaced the injectors in the slow cylinders, which got them to fire at temp. Any ideas what we might look at next? Our thought is possibly the Injector pump.
Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

I'm going to look at an International 175b. The guy has already told me that the left steering clutch is not working properly. Is this a major project to fix? Says the rear sprockets are wearing as well but all I'm going to use it for is to clear some land. Will be clearing 4 to 6 acres to start and then just some walking trails. In the past 2 years a new fuel pump and idler arms were also replaced. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
I have TD25B, it smokes heavy blue all the time except under a load then it is black. It seems to be dumping fuel over into the engine oil. The engine has been rebiult but a new pump was put on and it was off a powershift model and my TD25b is a standard. Any advice???
I recently purchased a 1962 International TD6 with a blade. Everything seems to work really well. The only fault I can find with it is this:
1) The left steering clutch handle is way forward of the right one. This would be no problem (both clutches seem to work perfectly) except that when you let off the left clutch handle quickly, it will sometimes hit the throttle, causing the throttle to get knocked up 3-4 notches. Any fixes for this?
2} Also, I'd like to know if there is a triple tree set-up for this rig. I'm kind of bewildered why a 'dozer that was sold as a 'farm' rig does not have one. But hey, I got it for a good price.
3) Are winches available out there for this rig?
Thanks...
wanted small dozer in running or not condition in the wisconsin or surounding area, will pick up. model and make do not matter, must have blade or bucket.
Mike,
I had trouble with my TD25B putting diesel into the sump and it was the injecters.DEpending on how bad they are leaking, you can usually see the leak if you pull of the rocker covers and run the engine. If the motor has just been rebuilt a fuel line may be leaking or it may have cracked that goes to the injecters. If it is avery small leak it may only leak under load and you may not detct as I mentioned above and you might have to get the injecters tested. It could also be the seal in the injecter pump.I not sure if the pumps are different in the power shift and gear drive,I think the power shift revs a bit more.
Good luck.Matt.

My Highschool FFA chapter is on its second year of restoring tractors in a national competition. Last year we won first in nationals with a 51 M, this year we are working on a TD9. We are going to take it completely apart. Motor is in decent shape, transmission isnt bad but a few gears are chewed up. One clutch is seized. Tracks on the other hand are pretty bad. We made a complete circle with them on our shop floor with them laying flat. Thats a little background, now for my question. We cannot find a serial number anywhere. Where is it supposed to be at? Weve been told a few different places, figured you guys would know. Or, are there different things that are year specific on them? track width, or somethin like that? Thanks for your help. Dont be suprised if you hear fomr me more in the next year.
Lee, the serial number is supposed to be on an alluminum tag about 2 or 3 inches sqaure on the lower left side of the dash panel by where your left foot would be as you are sitting in the seat. It is secured by 4 "pop" rivets. If it is not there you can get the number from the engine where it is stamped into the block (not a cast number but stamped on a small level surface). The 2 numbers are not the same but it will help you to identify the year of manufacture if the main tag is missing.
Good Luck
Thanks, we found the number on the block tonight.

Have TD6 IH and need to know what year it is Engine # 10.10w SN# TDBK 31139. Runs good Bottom end probably 95% Wondering if anyone wd know what year and if possible value as am thinking of selling.I live in MO. Thanks.
I have a 1952 TD-18A. Its been a great dozer but now the main clutch is slipping bad. I paid a little over $2000 for it about 6 years ago and I'm not looking to invest a fortune in it since it is so old. What is involved in replacing this clutch and where could I find a new clutch?
Thanks
The clutch is adjustable. If the disk is not damaged or worn completely out you should just tighten it up and it will be as good as new. Several places offer manuals that explain how to do this. Fairly typical situation.
Good Luck
The clutch is completely worn out, I can't tighten it anymore. Do you know of a place I could get a price fron a new one?

Hey if any of you Komatsu Factory types come here. Just wanted to say keep up the good work.
Your dozer are and always have been the best quality machines there are. Just don't ever goof them up with the high track design. You have the best there is now. CAT makes a worthless crawler now. Well maybe the scrap value is something.

Hello. I recently acquired a DC7-E dozer and am just getting use to how it operates. I have a question that I have not found in any manuals. When I pull the lever to lock the left track it takes a few seconds for it to hold and allow the dozer to go left. Sometimes it will not hold at all. What can I do to remedy this? I appreciate any troubleshooting tips.
Mike

Td 18a for sale in CA
I have a TD 18a for sale. It looks in really good condition. The undercarriage is does not look worn and all of the parts are still on the tractor. It has a BeGe hydrolic pump and no dozer blade. I have not attempted to start it but the guy I bought it from told me it ran when he parked it about four years ago. He said it only needed a water pump. I will take $1300 or best offer. If I start working on it the price will go up. I can get a digital photo if needed. Email me at jmccahill@sti.net. The tractor is located in the Fresno area.
Does anyone know if a TD 15C can be equipted with Thermostart or an intake manifold glow plug? Hate using ether in the winter if there's an alternative.
Thank you

What's involved in getting a steering clutch out of a TD18A? I've got one that needs it's release bearing replaced and I've never worked on one before. I've done plenty of Cats, but never an IH. Pretty much the same, or...?
Hi, Currently Im looking for a tracked loader to clear about 3 acres of wooded land and cut a fairly lengthy driveway (800') through same. After that I'll be using it for various odd jobs here and there, maybe some light logging, but no high time extreme duty kind of usage.
I've decided on a loader of about the size of a Cat 941 (or a Komatsu D41S), and am currently leaning toward the Cat 941. But not many 941's are available in my area. Plus I've seen quite a few either Dresser or IH 100 and 125 series loaders (which I presume are the same?). They always seem to be 1973 models for some reason, and they are always considerably cheaper than the Cats. They look pretty nice so I'm wondering how good they are, or if the reason they're a lot cheaper is because they ARE a lot cheaper.
When I was a kid IH always seemed to have a great reputation for quality (at least for tractors), but I just don't know about crawlers. Can anyone with knowledge advise on the quality of the 100 and 125 series of tracked loaders? What years did they make them? Are they reliable? And here's a biggee, are all of the parts I may need for it now and into the future available? If they are available are they affordable? (compared to say, Cat or Komatsu parts?) Any special things a prospective buyer should be wary of or look very closely at before buying one? (i.e. known problems, weaknesses etc)
Any advice you could offer would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Sean

Need your help!!!! I was clearing the snow out of my driveway with my 1942 TD-14 and the left track locked up. The left steering clutch control arm and left Steering brake have no resistance to them, they just free travel. Now when you put it in gear the track won't turn, but you can hear it clicking inside, but drive sprocket doesn't do anything. Any ideas what might have happened. Steering clutch and brake on that side have been weak for a while.
Thanks in advance for your help.

hi, does anyone have any information on komatsu motorscrapers?
how successful were they, how long were they manfactured, did they have design faults?
i heard they had wet brakes and supended axles is this true ?if so they must of been quite advanced scrapers.
I have seen a few advertised on Machinerytrader.com, and have a few spec sheets on them. Unfortunately, I have never fiqured out how to post here. I emailed a company in England that was selling some. An operator who worked for them emailed me, he said once their operators got used to them, they liked them fairly well, and he said they held up well.
They just never have been able to crack the North American market all that widely, there may be more in the western states. I believe they are still offered overseas.
I see by your email address that you must be a Terex fan, I saw some S32B Loadrunner scrapers while at the KC Cat convention last weekend. Man are they big.I thought they compared to a Cat 631, but they seem larger.
This outfit has repowered theirs with a more powerful engine, I think around 500 HP and 1500 ft/lbs torque! They said they had good luck with them, parts weren't hard to get, and were cheaper to run than Cats. Hope this helps you out.

td 20e motor change to cummings can it be done?
Ross - Dressta still build the TD20, now known as the TD20H, and it is powered by the M11 Cummins.
Nothing is impossible, the engine swap can be done; the economics of it will be governed by how cheaply you can acquire the engine, and all the necessary adaptors to pumps, air cleaners, exhaust, fan, etc .. or fabricate adaptors.
The flywheel housings should be standard SAE on both the IH and Cummins, but you may need an adaptor, if they have changed the SAE mount # between the two engines.
You need a good shop, someone with good engineering skills; the engine must be aligned with the transmission; new engine mountings will have to be fabricated .. and all other accessory modifications must be robust and a good fit.
If you could acquire a TD20H and all the components such as engine and adaptors, it would be relatively easy .. but I can't see where there would be too many TD20H's being parted at present .. they are too new.
Good luck with your project.

I've got a '58 TD14 that spun a rod bearing. Anybody got a line on where to get another bearing? bigkylewhite@comcast.net
TD9B Serial Numbers. The dash tag is gone. My manual says the serial number should also be stamped on the right rear of the frame. I have searched high and low for it. I can't find anything on the frame. It has a winch on the back, could this be covering up the number? Has anyone ever seen a serial number on the frame?
need td7c trans rebuilt any help?
I just purchased a TD-7C that the owner said worked fine until it was parked. It will not turn to the right; trying to do so causes the left track to jerk. So, I pulled the cover off of the "differential" housing and found that the brakes on the left hand side were so far out of adjustment that they were not being used. The brake pedal linkage was adjusted so short that the left front cam lever that operates the brakes couldn't be adjusted back to the correct position. So, I lengthened the pedal linkage and adjusted the left brakes back into position.
While I'm in here, I would like to replace the brake pads if they are out of spec. How big of a job is this? They look like they have about 1/16 thickness, but I don't have anything to compare to (the manual is on order).
I'm hopeful that the brake adjustment fixes the problem, and its not something in the final drive that goes to the sprocket. Any thoughs or advice will be appreciated.
I found the problem (I should have known what to look for); the final drive bull gear on the left is toast. Anyone know a good source for parts?

Sprockets are probabaly 60%, pins are good, pads are mid life, rollers seem good. 6 volt. We've had the machine for probably 12 years now. It's located in Baraga County of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. (Zip 49962) if you want to look it up on Mapquest.com. Hello anyone listening,
I have recently purchased an International gas over deisel td-9 crawler. It has a Bucyrus straight blade with only up and down action. It works, cranks, runs and operates great. I have done a lot of pushing with it just within the couple of months that I have had it. I have been fighting the tracks a little keeping the tension adjusted so that they do not come off. I am getting the feel for the way the tracks should be maintained. I love the old thing. The guy that I bought it from told me that it is a 1952 model. I am not disputing that, but would like to find out more information. There is a marking plate on the arm holding the hydraulic cylider that seems to only give information about the blade attachement...manufacturer & patent numbers. There must be another plate with model numbers and serial numbers on it somewhere. Can anyone tell me where it is located on the tractor? Thanks for any help.
And by the way how do I start an account so I can chat back and forth on this site?
Thanks,
Rodney
My dad has a 1980 Dresser TD 15 dozer with power shift. He said it is making oil fast. It doesnt appear to be water or diesel(no breakdown). It must be hydraulic or transmission fluid. Any ideas where to find the problem?
All you have said is it's making oil fast, but where??? Engine or transmission??? HT
The oil in the engine is increasing. The first time they noticed the oil was high, the hydraulic was low. But they also found a hydraulic leak then. This last time they checked and realised the engine oil had increased again, the transmission fluid was low. Sigh, neither time did they check both hydraulic and transmission fluid.
Im looking for a service manual for a td9 S# 580370. It is set up with a drott loader. Also looking for a backhoe attachment to put on this unit. I live in upstate NY if any one in this area might have one. Thanks Rick 6/14/04
need somone in the Atalantic city area that would be willing to check out a bulldozer(which I am considering purchasing). It it is a vintage model and would need to be check over completely. So if any of you have heavy equipment experience and want to make a little money to drive over and check it out for me I would appreciate it. I trust alot of people on these forums..most of you are very critical about your own equipment which means you pay attention to detail. Thanks guys.

Hi,Ya'll. What a great spot. Like a buffet of information---world wide. And a commom interest that is so worthwhile. We need to save all the old IHC iron possible. Those slack-jawed,drooling mope scrappers dont care what they cut-up. Well,I'm done mouthin off about that,so here's my question,--Does anybody have a TD-7E being parted out.I need most everything for the undercarriage, including the right and left track frames. If any of y'all have these items or know where I can find them I would be very grateful.Ph--9048243917 --E-Mail---billking@aug.com
First post here, so here goes.... I'm looking for undercarriage parts-in particular pads-for an IH 250 trackloader. Nothing fancy mind you but just decent, 50% or so pieces for an old unit I'm trying to revive. Also, would TD-20 u.c. parts be compatible with this beast??? Thanks in advance for any info.....
Yes, but which uc do you have now?? Std. or SS. What's your s/n of your 250?? HT
