I bought an older 410 backhoe about 6 months ago. Having a little problem with it. After working it about an hour or so, the hydraulics loose power. The loader is real slow, and the backhoe is weak. Power steering is also weak. I replaced the filters and cleaned the screen. No help. I have the proper fluid in it. I touched the lines from the hydraulic pump, and they are very hot. Don't know how hot they are supposed to be. The line from the radiator to the pump is not hot. I can hold my hand on it. Not sure what to check now. Hoping someone would give me a clue on what to check. Thanks...Emery
The older Deeres had a charge pump that forced oil into the main hydraulic pump and also handled the power steering. I'd guess that yours is bad. Any trouble with the shuttle? The charge pump provides oil for the clutch packs in that also.
Dave, no trouble with shuttle. The transmission was repaired just before i bought it. The shifting is fine as well as the power. However, the brakes are also weak when this happens. Thanks...Emery
Not sure this will help but it sounds like somthing changes when it warms up, posibly a weak check valve or relif valve not ajusted.
If the oil is heating, you probably have a high-presssure leak to sump. This can be in any valve or the main pump itself. Feel the return lines after you start it up, & see which one starts to heat first. If the pump has a shutoff screw (screw w/a roll pin thru it on top of the pump), see if it makes a difference in the engine load when you shut it off. If the engine "frees up" noticeably when the pump is off, you definitely have a leak somewhere.
I was finally able to go out and look at this again. It has been raining every day. The return line for the loader gets real hot. The backhoe return line gets warm but not as hot. Can I loosen the return line on each and see if there is hydraulic fluid without causing a problem. Also, the line going to the pump from the radiator. Does anyone know where the charge pump is. Thanks for the help...Emery
I just dug a hole 19'6" deep with our 410 B.
Backfilled it with 8' of drainrock and left a 4" casing with well screen. It already has some water in it and it is the driest time of the year.
