Hey everyone! I'm thinking of buying a D8. I'm told it's serial number is 2u11921. The engine serial number is 2u22076. Does anyone know what year this machine is? I had guessed about 1953. How much horsepower does it have? Other than turbo how is the engine different from the d8h which is a pretty nice machine from what i hear. How well do the cable blades work? Can i use a cable scraper and the blade together or do i have to remove the blade? Is it a 5 speed direct drive? whats it weigh? I had guessed the weight about 25 ton. How much is it worth? I can probably buy it for less than it is worth as scrap but I would hate to cut up a running machine. I dont know much about the older cats so anything at all anyone could tell me would be appreciated.
Chris - D-8 s/n 2U11921 is a 1950 model. The engine s/n 2U22076 is a 1953. The HP for 11921 or 22076 is 144 Fly. HP. The D-8H has a D342 engine and the 2U machine has a D13000. Basic machine operating weight is approx. 38,155#'s and it is a 5 speed DD.
I'm sure someone will get to the going price. Undercarriage condition is a biggy as well as the machine in general.

Thanks for the info. I didnt buy it because i was concerned about shipping costs and wether the old dozer was worth it. It ended up going for 1025 dollars which seemes cheap since it would scrap for more than that. But it was nearly 300 miles away and trucking in this day and age of 3.00 diesel scared me.I didnt want to pay another grand shipping it when i didnt know how well it ran or if it ran. It hadnt ran for 5 years and ran to the spot it was shut down so i figured it would start ok. I guessed the tracks were maybe 40% and the rest of the undercarriage maybe 60%. Sprockets looked good chain didnt look too worn. Was this a really good deal i missed?
Chris sounded like good deal, i have the same dozer, paid 3000. Witch was great price, machine is in exellent cond.Theres others to be found.Curious, where was this d8 located.
