Finding parts for this old engine are near impossible. if anybody out there knows of a parts supplier it would be a great help (prefer supplier to be in australia or new-zealand but not essential

Smithy - You're right .. parts for the D4400 are near-on impossible to get .. and I doubt whether you'll find any in Aust or NZ. They were obsolete by 1947 ....
Even the Americans have problems getting parts for them. I'd suggest the best you can do, is find a good engine reconditioning company who can suggest ways of modifying other engine parts to fit. You can do amazing things with a lathe ...

Smithy - There's a company in Latin America making piston rings, at least, for the D4400 .. provided you're happy with Mexican rings ..

WTAT INC

thanks for the info king of absolete & ozdozer the thing is the motor had been rebuilt about 500 hrs ago . so i`ll probably use the old rings , don`t know what happened but it ended with the skirt & bottom oil ring broken from the piston &rod stuffed aswell as the crank . any way to cut a long story short the main parts i need is ;one good piston ,gasket set ,big end & main bearing set 30 or 50 thou and I`am in business.the rings are not a great concern there`s a bloke in rockhampton that can make rings.

Many of the internal parts are the same as other engines Cat built of the same vintage. The D4400 I did for KOO had a folded rod and a broken piston and cylinder. The rod knocked about an inch off of the cylinder bottom. The rod and piston the I used to replace the busted parts came from a six cylinder engine of the same bore in a Cat 12 grader. I don't remeber exactly but those engines are grouped by bore size whether 4 or 6 cylinders. Makes parts hunting a bit easier.
